
Rachel Smith is a Bay Area vocalist, guitarist, and songwriter known for her soulful interpretations of jazz, pop, and Motown, as well as her own original music. She has performed throughout the Bay Area at wine bars, cafés, and festivals, including Inklings Café in Pleasanton, PianoFight in San Francisco, and the Lafayette Art & Wine Festival. Her live sets are heartfelt, dynamic, and collaborative—often featuring outstanding instrumental musicians and background vocalists, and creating space for their artistry to shine.
In 2023, Rachel released her debut EP, Puzzle, a collection of original songs co-created with acclaimed pianist Andrew Barnes Jamieson. The project showcases thoughtful songwriting and an ability to blend styles with emotional clarity and musical depth.
In addition to her work as a performer and songwriter, Rachel teaches acoustic and electric guitar to beginner and intermediate players, along with a handful of ukulele students. Her teaching style is flexible, fun, and student-centered, with a strong emphasis on adapting to each learner’s goals and strengths. She has studied with acclaimed music educator and pianist, Bob Athayde, jazz guitarist Mary Birch – wife of the late acclaimed drummer Gaylord Birch, Colin Botts (bass, mandolin), Brazilian vocalist Fabiana Cozza (voice), Ben Johns (voice), and jazz pianist Walter Earl.
Outside of music, Rachel leads the Digital Design department at Solano Community College, where she teaches graphic design, animation, and illustration.
